Big Steps petition exceeds all expectations

We asked 10,000 people to sign – but the Big Steps petition for more funding for childcare has reached 11,043 signatures! Between online signers and people signing the petition at childcare centres around the state, the petition hit the 11,000 mark just as childcare campaigners prepare to present the petition and a formal Budget submission to Deputy Prime Minister, Wayne Swan, this Sunday. Biggest Queensland rally in years exceeds 10,000

On Wednesday 12th of September public sector unions staged one of the largest rallies Queensland has witnessed in years. Unions came together to oppose the public sector job cuts and the attack on services by the Newman Government. 14,000 workers will be axed from the public sector, one third of whom are frontline staff, including nurses, pharmacists, radiographers and other health professionals. Big Steps celebrations in Cairns

There was great excitement in Cairns as local directors, educators, parents and children all celebrated the launch of the ‘Big Steps’ advertising campaign. An official screening was held in Goodstart Early Learning Centre, Cairns North on Sunday 5th of August with a fun brunch, face painting, balloons and lots of activities for all the family. It’s all part of a major advertising blitz aimed at stepping up our ongoing fight for professional wages for early childhood educators. Our organisers are travelling around every centre in the region spreading the ‘Big Steps’ message but we need to make sure everyone is hearing it. Continue reading
