Today’s Government announcement of a long awaited boost to the hours for Teacher Aides is great news for education.
It’s a campaign which United Voice has been involved with for over six years.
This morning Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek announced details of the initiative which will lead to the equivalent of a full-time Teacher Aide in 600 state school classes over four years.
The initial phase will be rolled out in schools identified with the greatest need with 2,341 additional Teacher Aide hours a week to be provided next year.
Sheila Hunter, Assistant Secretary of United Voice, the Teacher Aide Union in Queensland, described the news as a welcome boost for education.
“We are delighted the Government honoured its commitment to Teacher Aides within its first 100 days in office”
“ It’s an issue we have been working on for six years and is great to see Teacher Aides are being recognised for the important role they play in education.”
“It’s a huge boost for not only our Prep classes but most importantly their students”
“We look forward to the complete roll out of this scheme and the lasting benefits it will bring to our schools here in Queensland”
