Childcare summit needs to focus on wages crisis

The Prime Minister has announced today that she will hold a summit with unions and childcare representatives on ways to fix the current crisis in childcare.

United Voice Queensland Secretary, Gary Bullock, says “any reform of the sector must result in professional wages for childcare Educators”.

“This summit tomorrow, just days after United Voice research showed childcare fees in Queensland have jumped by 10% this year, proves the Government is listening.”

“However, we need action and the only way the problems in childcare can be fixed is by allocating 1.4 billion dollars in federal funding.”

“We all want a system where parents won’t have to pay higher fees but Educators also need to get a decent wage.”

“We already know there’s huge public support for our campaign with over 3,000 people signing our petition on www.myunitedvoice.org, which we’ll send to the Prime Minister.”

“We look forward to working with the Government to make sure we see the reforms which this industry so badly needs.”
