Making it happen on International Women’s Day

Making it happen was the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day and we celebrated with some Queensland women who epitomise this theme.

Teacher aides, school cleaners, educators, ambulance officers, cleaners and prison officers were among the union members who gathered to enjoy a brunch to celebrate the occasion.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, Minister Leeanne Enoch and Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd were the guest speakers at Sunday morning’s event.

These three inspirational Queensland women delivered very moving speeches highlighting what International Women’s Day means to them.

Both Minister Trad and Minister Enoch spoke about the recent election win and the fact we now have a female Premier and more women than men in Cabinet for the first time ever.

There was a great turnout at this year’s event to celebrate the contribution of women to all aspects of society with inspirational speakers and a great atmosphere.

In typical union fashion, the event ended in song.

Click here to have a look at the words for the song- Don’t be too polite girls.
