Workers at the XXXX Milton Brewery will walk off the job for a fourth time in the past month as Japanese beer giant Lion tries to gag workers for standing up for their jobs.
United Voice Queensland spokesperson Damien Davie said XXXX and parent company Lion needed to pull their heads out of the sand and come clean about their plans for the brewery and their staff.
“Next week, XXXX is dragging us through the Fair Work Commission to try and gag us and their workers from standing up for good jobs in Queensland,” Mr Davie said.
“XXXX management don’t want us telling Queenslanders the truth about what their plans are for the brewery and for staff. They are also trying to stop workers from picketing the brewery, it’s outrageous.
“We are not backing down, and next week we are upping the ante.
“Next Thursday, brewery workers will march off the job and rally out the front of Suncorp Stadium for the Broncos home game against the Bulldogs.
“XXXX is a major sponsor of the Broncos, and I don’t think Broncos fans will be too pleased with how XXXX is treating their workers.
“They say one thing to their workers and something entirely different to the public.
“We want to negotiate in good faith, to get a good outcome for brewery workers, but XXXX is refusing to come to the table.
“Instead of picking on their workers, XXXX needs to recommit to Queensland, and lock in their commitment in the enterprise agreement.
“They say their roots are in Queensland, but really they don’t care what happens here because they’ve got to keep the big bosses in Japan happy.
“We’ve got no choice but to continue to step up our action to show XXXX their workers and all Queenslanders deserve better.”
