The hot topic of shorts created a lot of feedback from members when United Voice announced its intention to pursue a review of the current uniform policy.
Members agreed that staff should be given a choice of a hot weather alternative.
United Voice delegates on the newly elected State Equipment and Vehicle Committee (SEVC) met for the first time in February and put forward their request for the re-introduction of shorts, along with a lighter weight fabric option for the current cargo pants and shirts.
QAS have agreed to invest in an alternative and are currently working with suppliers about the availability of the new uniform options.
QAS have indicated there will be some conditions with the wearing of shorts such as teaming them up with ankle socks and operational shoes.
Overall, this has been a good win for United Voice members who have collaborated on bringing this issue to a positive arrangement.
