State Budget delivers 200 extra paramedics

The best news for members out of the 2019 State Budget was the record funding boost for QAS that included the allocation of 200 extra paramedics.

Through the persistent voices of strong delegates across the state, ambulance members were able to air their concerns, to politicians and in the media, helping to achieve this massive win.

Successes add up

United Voice members call on their Union to assist with many issues that arise out of their employment as an ambulance officer either via their workplace delegate, union organiser or member assist call centre.
Workplace delegates represent members every day across the state in disciplinary processes and with advice around entitlements, often resulting in advocacy with QAS in order to have a myriad of issues resolved.

No Excuse for Abuse Campaign – Re-Launch

In late April the QAS relaunched the No Excuse for Abuse campaign in efforts to stem the ever increasing incidents of occupational violence faced by Ambulance Officers.
United Voice delegates were front and centre with the Minister for Health and Ambulance when the campaign was launched in Townsville.

Labour Day around the state

The first weekend in May sees the union movement celebrate achievements and acknowledge the work of members and delegates across the state.
Ambulance members came together in many areas around Queensland to participate in marches, rallies and family fun days with BBQs, drinks and entertainment.

New union proposal

Members would have received a number of updates around the new union proposal being worked on between United Voice and the National Union of Workers.

A short story

The hot topic of shorts created a lot of feedback from members when United Voice announced its intention to pursue a review of the current uniform policy.

Members agreed that staff should be given a choice of a hot weather alternative.

Thank you to members and the community who took the time out to give us feedback via social media and emails in regards to the ramping problem being felt around many hospitals across the state.

United Voice recently asked of the state government to fund an extra 250 paramedic to ease the ramping problem.
