Frecklington must rule out cuts to Townsville health services

Deb Frecklington needs to guarantee to the people of North Queensland there won’t be any cuts to Townsville Hospital and Health Service, health workers or ambulance services under the LNP, in her budget address in Townsville tomorrow.

United Voice Queensland Branch Secretary Gary Bullock said local ambulance officers, health professionals and the community had not forgotten the harsh cuts the LNP rolled out in the north under Campbell Newman.

“People in North Queensland don’t need to cast their minds back very far to remember the devastating effect Campbell Newman’s state government cuts to health had on communities such as Townsville,” Mr Bullock said.

“In just three years of government, the LNP slashed 397 health staff from the Townsville and North Queensland region.”

“The Palaszczuk Government’s recent budget announcements to boost hospital and ambulance services in the area have been meet with relief by hard-working ambulance officers, health workers and everyday people.

“This includes a record $1 billion for Townsville HHS in 2019/20 – $54.5 million more than the year before.”

“Now it is time for the opposition leader to guarantee the LNP will not cut a single hospital or health job if elected. She must also apologise for the grief her party’s severe cuts inflicted on communities and frontline services the last time it was in power,” Mr Bullock said.
