The Big Steps campaign for professional pay for early childhood educators is ramping up, as Malcolm Turnbull continues to stick his head in the sand on the issue. As a result, educators across the country have been left with no choice but to walk off the job and declare March 27th as ‘Keep your Children at Home Day’. Early educators are qualified professionals responsible for shaping our children’s future, and it is about time their important work was recognised.

Jobs You Can Count On
While the Turnbull Government continues to turn its back on workers, we are stepping up our efforts to secure stable, liveable wages for all of our members. Through the Jobs You Can Count On campaign, we are targeting job security and stable income – something every worker has a fundamental right to have. This won’t be an easy win under a Liberal Government, which has repeatedly treated workers with contempt. It is promising that Bill Shorten and Federal Labor have acknowledged their support for workers and a decent, living wage, but we need to continue to hold our politicians to account on this important issue.

Save Our Weekend
In local clubs and RSLs across the state, hospitality workers are facing the very real threat of a pay cut they can’t afford and don’t deserve. We will continue to take the fight to Clubs Australia to lock in penalty rates for clubs workers, as part of our Save our Weekend campaign. Already, more than 10 Queensland clubs and associations have made submissions to the Fair Work Commission opposing moves to cut penalty rates, but more still needs to be done.
