International Women's Day is a celebration of the wonderful accomplishments of women both here and across the globe. The ‘Leave no woman behind’ rally is yet another opportunity to show how proud we are to be female.
Saturday 10 March is your day to step out in solidarity with women from all walks of life at the Leave no woman behind rally in Brisbane.
March together and show your support for the fact all women – regardless of class, background or culture – deserve the right to live in a fair and equal society.
The rally will echo the sentiments of generations of women before us, when some 2,000 working class women took to the streets of New York City in 1908 to march for improved pay, shorter working hours and the right to vote.
While we’ve made great strides towards liberation since then, gender inequality is still rife in our society, so the fight isn't over yet.
Many women in this day and age are plagued by lower wages, workplace sexual harassment, homelessness, domestic violence, and no freedom of right to abortion.
The female-dominated early childhood education sector is a prime example where women continue to fight for equal pay. Let's band together for fair pay as we honour the vital role these phenomenal women play in educating and nurturing the children of our future.
At the rally, you’ll also hear from inspirational guest speakers, including:
- Ros McLennan, Secretary Qld Council of Unions
- Sia Carlyon, Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivors
- Dianne Zeltin, retired academic
- Dr Karmala Emanuel, Women’s abortion rights
We also recognise the fabulous work of the Brisbane/Meanjin IWD 2018 working group in making this rally possible.
So join us at Emma Miller Place (off Roma Street) at 1pm on Saturday 10 March and together we can win this fight.
