XXXX has been caught out in a disgraceful public lie, with workers confirming beer brewed in New South Wales is actually shipped over the border to be sold in Queensland bottle shops.
The union representing brewery workers, United Voice Queensland, has called for a boycott of the smaller, inferior 330mL cans with the tell-tale NSW stamp on the bottom, which are sold in Brisbane bottle shops.
Products made at the Milton brewery in Queensland have a code starting with “11” on the bottle or can, whereas those made in NSW start with “14”.
United Voice Queensland spokesperson Damien Davie said XXXX had once again lied to the public.
“This is massive. XXXX have publicly stated, on Facebook and to the media, that if you’re buying a Gold in Queensland, you’re drinking one brewed in Milton,” he said.
“That’s a bold faced lie, because just this week, I bought a 10-pack of 330mL cans here in Brisbane, and they were made in NSW.
“They’ve also said they brew our beer in other states so they can get it to the bottle-o as quickly as possible with as little travel as possible.
“Then why are they shipping Queensland’s beer up from NSW when we’ve got the original XXXX brewery right here in Brisbane?
“What’s even more insulting is that they’re shipping in a smaller, more expensive, inferior product.
“How can the people of Queensland believe anything XXXX says?
“We’re calling on all Queenslanders to boycott this garbage from NSW and only buy local. Make sure you check your cans and bottles for the ‘11’ code to know you’re drinking the real deal from Queensland.
“This is about ensuring the pride of Queensland stays true to Queensland and isn’t watered down from interstate.
“XXXX needs to answer to all Queenslanders, and apologise to them for lying.”
