Around 100 XXXX brewery workers will take industrial action next Monday (March 26) to secure their jobs and conditions, causing disruption to beer supply ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
United Voice Queensland spokesperson Damien Davie said majority of workers had voted to take industrial action over constant job insecurity and threats of watering down their conditions.
“We all know and love XXXX here in Queensland, but it’s time for management to commit to good jobs for Queenslanders and look after their workers,” Mr Davie said.
“Next Monday, brewery workers will walk off the job and they will have rolling work stoppages until XXXX comes to the bargaining table.
“The reality is, over the past few years XXXX have made around 40 workers redundant from our iconic Milton brewery – that’s a third of their workforce.
“XXXX has also started making beer in New South Wales and South Australia, and we don’t want any more to be moved down south.
“It’s just not right – this is a legendary Queensland beer, which should be made exclusively here in Queensland, by Queenslanders.
“We want everyone to be able to drink XXXX while they’re enjoying the Commonwealth Games. But management needs to come to the table, or they’ll risk disrupting beer supply at this important time.
“We’re asking all Queenslanders to get behind XXXX brewery workers when they take industrial action next week, and to come along to the brewery on Monday to support our workers.”
Management of XXXX need to answer the following questions from Queenslanders:
- Will they commit to making XXXX exclusively in Queensland?
- Why have they sacked a third of their Queensland workforce already?
- When will they guarantee job security and conditions for workers in their enterprise agreement?
